Launch of the second Australian amphibious assault ship

December 3, 2015 in Sydney, the ceremony of commissioning of the Royal Australian Navy of the second universal landing ship (UDC) L 01 Adellaide was held. Australian Governor General Peter Congrove, Secretary of Defense Maris Payne, and Australian Navy Commander Vice Admiral Tim Barrett attended the ceremony. The program for the Australian fleet of the two largest ships in its history was thus completed.

The construction contract for the Australian Navy of two UDCs of the Spanish ship Juan Carlos I was concluded with the Spanish shipbuilding association Navantia in November 2007. Navantia built the hulls of both ships at its shipyard in El Ferrol (with the manufacture of part of the hull units also at its plant in Fen),who, after descending on a special transport vessel Blue Marlin, were transported to Australia for final completion at BAE Systems Australia (formerly Tenix) in Williamstown.
The main building UDC L 02 Canberra was built in El Ferrol with the beginning of construction in September 2008. The official ceremony of laying the ship was held there on September 23, 2010, and launching on February 17, 2011. The Canberra Corps was brought from Spain to Williamstown for completion on October 17, 2012. Sea trials were launched on March 3, 2014, and on November 28, 2014 in Sydney L 02 Canberra was introduced into the Australian fleet.
The corps of the second Australian UDC L 01 Adelaide was built in El Ferrol with the beginning of construction in February 2010. The official laying ceremony was held on February 18, 2011, and the launch was on July 4, 2012. Adelaide was delivered from Spain to Williamstown for completion on February 12, 2014. Adelaide sea trials were started on June 17, 2015.
