How do you like the theater in Kiev?
Yesterday in Kiev, at the Podol, a new theater building was opened - its construction began in 1996, but it was frozen due to lack of funds; the current reconstruction was paid for by Roshen. The author of the project is the architect Drozdov, who was supposed to submit the project to the Kiev Council for consideration, but did not appear at the meeting.
Kyiv residents reacted to the new building very differently - some say that this is a cool and modern building, which was built according to all the canons of UNESCO - in a style that is radically different from the surrounding historic buildings. Others very much curse the project - saying that the building resembles at the same time a crematorium, a market stall, a box and a sarcophagus of the Fourth Chernobyl NPP unit.
Here are some more photos of the new theater:
Here is what architect Drozdov himself tells about his project: “The building dissolves in the greenery of the hill at the foot of which it is located. The left and right voids form part of a common recreational plot, which is at the disposal of the theater guests. The entrance portal creates a physical and visual connection between the street and the lobby area, filled with day and evening events. The portal transmits events from one space to another, turning theater guests and pedestrians into actors and spectators, and vice versa, depending on the point of view. "
The Kiev administration claims that the project is not yet complete - according to them, that side of the building that faces Andrew’s descent should be completely covered with grapes and ivy. The chief architect of Kiev, Alexander Svistunov, also states that perhaps some changes will be made to the facade itself - this is planned to be done by May 2017, when the opening of the theater will take place.
And how do you like this project, what do you say?
Personally, I do not really.
