Later, the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the driver who was driving from the direction of Central Sochi fell asleep at the wheel and drove onto the sidewalk through the oncoming lane.
"As a result of an accident, a 63-year-old local resident died on the spot, three more pedestrians with injuries of varying degrees of severity were taken to a medical facility," the report said.
DPS officers and the investigative team are working at the scene of the incident.
